There have been countless Latine musicians active in the punk scene, notably starting in the Los Angeles area in the late 1970s. The so-called punk explosion in the 1990s, when bands started to self-identify as Latin American or Chicano bands, is strongly associated with the political instability in Latin American countries and the discrimination and working-class conditions facing immigrant communities in the U.S. Gatherings and shows have been and continue to function as not only outlets for dissatisfaction towards social injustices, but also platforms for tangible change through fundraising. This playlist focuses on tracks with Spanish lyrics.
